Saikot AITC candidate absolves himself of highhandedness

LAMKA, Feb 15: Reacting to allegations of his highhandedness on February 11 with respect to the Saikot ac, All India Trinamool Congress, AITC candidate Lunkholal alias Lal boi convened a press meet today at Hotel Venus declaring the accusations as baseless and concocted with an intention to malign him.

Further reacting to the accusations which were carried by some Imphal based dailies on February 14, the AITC candidate expressed that he had never asked his supporters to used muscle power against supporters of other candidates, but on the contrary, he had instructed them to be mild and simple in their approach towards all voters irrespective of their political inclination.

” The very thought that I happen to beat somebody since they do not support and cooperate with me made me embarass ‘ he said at the meet while urging all conscientious citizens not to use their freedom of speeches guaranteed by the Democratic Constitution to tarnish the image of some body in this manner.

TC candidate refutes allegation

Lamka, February 15 2012: Trinamool Congress nominee in Saikot AC today refuted the charges leveled against him by some individuals ‘with malicious intention’ .

Denying the accusation, TC candidate in Saikot AC, Lhungkhomang Lhungdim contended that they deliberately made the accusations as his chances of winning the poll was all the more evident.

‘The charges leveled by Khaiminlen Lhungdim and two of his accomplices against me are without any basis.

It is a concocted means to malign my image,’ Lhunkhomang Lhungdim, the TC candidate in Saikot told a handful of reporters here today.

With the chances of re-poll or deletion of proxy votes becoming imminent in many of the polling booths under Saikot AC, my chances of winning the poll becomes all the more evident and this has resulted in some dubious individuals working overtime to malign my image, he said.

Candidate’s high-handedness alleged

Imphal, February 14 2012: Three residents of Dangpi village under Saikot assembly constituency have alleged threat and thrashing by the Trinamool Congress candidate of the said assembly segment for not supporting him.

Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, Khaiminlen Lhungdim (28) s/o Jamlet Lhungdim, Tinkholam Lhungdim (40) w/o Yamkhothang Lhungdim and Thangminlal Touthang (28) s/o Jamkholun Touthang, all from Dangpi village of Churachandpur district claimed they were intimidated and beaten up by the Trinamool nominee of the AC namely Lunkholal Lhungdim and his supporters.

Khaiminlen contended that he received a telephone call from Lunkholal’s younger sister Chongboi Lhungdim on February 11 morning at around 11 o’clock asking him for a meeting.

As soon as Khaiminlen reached Lunkhulal’s house at Chengkonpang village the candidate allegedly tried to open fire at him, which however did not materialise as Khaiminlen struck at the attacker’s forearm.

Lunkhulal, then abused and thrashed Khaiminlen after which he was confined at the candidate’s place throughout the night.

Then at around 1 am of February 12 about five supporters of Lunkhulal barged into the homes of Tinkholam and Thangminlal.

The two were also brought to the said candidate’s residence at gunpoint, claimed the three adding that the latter duo was also threatened and severely beaten up by Lunkholal himself.

Before the three were locked up at the house, Lunkhulal charged them of voting for his Congress rival and asked the trio to leave dangpi village failing which they would be subjected to more atrocities.

It is also informed that Tinkholam’s husband reported the incident at Kumbi police station but till date there is no report of police action against the accused person(s) .

Urging the Government to take up appropriate action against those involved in assaulting them, they also claimed involvement of Jaminlal Lhungdim (30) and Ngamkhulen Lhungdim (25) in the act.

Candidate’s photo disappears

Imphal, Feb 15: An Indian National Congress (INC) candidate’s photograph taken just before casting his vote in a polling booth was just disappeared and instead came out as a photograph of a different person in place during the recent Manipur polls.

Yamthong Haokip, an INC candidate from Saikul constituency was completely amazed when his photograph was found removed and put in a wrong photograph of another person in the voters’ photograph list. He said this while talking to the media here on Wednesday.

Haokip said his name was in the serial no. 1 in the electoral roll and that he cast his vote in first place in polling station 46/15 under Saikul constituency of Senapati district on the polling day on January 28.

He, however, said his own photograph which was taken by a polling officer was found displaced by another person photo. The matter came to light when photo comparison of electors was carried out two days ago.

The Election Commission has not yet taken up any step though the evidence of poll violation by means of photo mismanagement was found out by the Central observers, Haokip lamented.
