November 16, 2012: Miss Hoineilhing Sitlhou @ Boinu was conferred Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Sociology by the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on November 16, 2012. She hails from the state of Manipur in North East India.
Dr. Sitlhou, who is currently an assistant professor in Sociology at the University of Hyderabad in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, is one of the few scholars who has done extensive academic research on the Thadou-Kukis of Manipur. Her thesis was supervised by Professor Susan Visvanathan, chairperson of the Sociology Department, School of Social Sciences, JNU, New Delhi.
Among other academic achievements, she has presented her research works in several national and international conferences, including Germany and the United States of America.
