Brief Political History :
- Joined Political party i.e, Kuki National Assembly (KNA), a recognised regional party in Manipur in 1988 soon after M.Com studies and became its Executive Secretary in-charge of Chandel A/C. from 1988-90.
- Involved freely and fully in Social Activities from 1985 soon after Graduation till the 6th Manipur Legislative Assembly in February, 1995.
- Was an Executive Member of MPCC(I) during 1996-98
- Contested the Mid-term poll/election to the 8th Assembly on INC Party ticket from 60 Singhat A/C in 2002 but lost to Shri Thangso Baite (the present MP from II- Outer Manipur Parl. Constituency), who contested on Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) ticket.
- Did not apply for INC ticket in the 9th Assembly election on the ground that Shri Thangso Baite, the then sitting Congress-(I) MLA would have a better chance of getting it.
Administrative Positions & Memberships held in the State Govt.:
In the First Term as MLA, 41-Chandel A/C :
i) Elected to the 6th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Janata Dal party ticket in 1995.
ii) Immediately merged into the INC party and became Congress (I) MLA from March 1995.
iii) Minister of State (Power/works) in 1995 in the Rishang Keishing Ministry.
iv) Promoted to the Rank of Cabinet as Govt. Chief Whip, 1996 – 97.
v) Cabinet Minister (Social Welfare) in 1997 in the Rishang Keishing Ministry.
vi) Sit in the opposition bench with Rishang Keishing from 1998 till the term ends in 2000 AD.
vii) Held membership in various House Committees including Public Accounts Committee-1998-00.
In the Second Term as MLA, 41-Chandel A/C :
viii) Re-elected to the 7th Manipur Legislative Assembly on RJD party ticket in 2000.
ix) Cabinet Minister (Sericulture & Labour ) 2000-01 in the W. Nipamacha Singh Ministry.
In the Third Term as MLA, 60-Singhat A/C :
x) Re-elected to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2007 on National People’s Party (NPP) ticket.
xi) Held membership in various House Committees as an Opposition MLA from 2007 – till date.
Positions held in Social Orgns. :
i) President, Zomi National Congress (ZNC) Chandel District Chapter, Manipur (an organisation heralding a re-unification movement of the Zomis inhabiting western Myanmar and India).
ii) President, United Zomi Organisation (UZO) now called United Zou Organisation from 2001-2007 and again from 2008 to August, 2009. Did not contest the UZO Presidential Election held in August, 2009 due to an amendment for one-man-one post norm in the constitution which was adopted w.e.f 2009 (August) General Assembly cum UZO Presidential Election.
iii) Vice-Chairman, Zomi Council from 2002-07 and 2008-09.
Peace Missions Undertaken & headed:
i) Convenor-cum-Chairman (as the Local MLA) on Committee for Restoration of Normalcy in the Chandel District Kuki-Naga Communal Conflict from 1995 till 16th May,1997: the day of Renunciation and Achievement of Success in Restoring Normalcy particularly in
Chandel A/C followed subsequently by return of normalcy and forgiveness among the communal conflict affected Tribal people of the Hill Districts of Manipur.
ii) Delegated as Chief Minister’s emissary to pacify the public riotic fury in connection with the burning down of the then President of the United Zomi Organisation (UZO) now called United Zou Organisation’s residential building by the Paite National Council (PNC) volunteers now called Paite Tribe Council (PTC) at Zoveng, Zenhang Lamka, Churachandpur in March, 1995.
iii) Delegated as Chief Minister’s emissary to speak to the President of Zomi Re-Unification Organisation (ZRO) in the presence of Shri K. Guite in regards to the kidnapping and killing of about 30-40 Zou (Peace loving) people in the Kuki- Zomi communal conflict-torn Churachandpur District in September 1997.
