Mizoram to implement Right to Education Act

March 5, 2010: Education Minister, Mr. Lalsawta said, Right to Education Act passed by the Parliament will be enforced in Mizoram from April this year. Addressing a seminar on Economic and Educational Security with Refrence to North East India held in Information Department’s Conference Hall today, the Education Minister said, the Government has taken steps to make Mizoram as education hub of the country to enable the people of the region to make meaningful contribution in the development of the country. In his keynote addressed, the Principal of Govt. J. Thankima College, Mr. Ramhmangaiha Ralte highlighted the Prime Minister’s programme which gives priority on creation of human capital. He said, the aim of the Prime Minister is to raise the percentage of college students from the present 12.7 to 20 percent by 2015 and setting up of 1500 new Universities in the country during the 11th Five Year Plan period. The seminar was presided over by Mizoram Educational Foundation President, Dr. LN Tluanga.

An old woman, Zachuaii succumbed to her burnt injuries in Lunglei Civil Hospital today. According to Lunglei Police sources, Zachuaii, was caught by the fire when she burnt her own garden near the 2nd MAP Battalion Hqrs. in Luangmual yesterday. After she was rescued by the Police, she was admitted to the hospital with serious burnt injuries.
