3 more death from swine flu, toll in India 1,376

Mumbai, March 03: There deaths from swine flu or influenza A (H1N1) were registered in India yesterday, according to health officials. These deaths have now pushed up the overall toll in the country up to 1,376, sources stated.

Out of the three deaths, one death occurred during the day itself, in Maharashtra. The remaining two included one death each from Rajasthan and Punjab that had taken place earlier but were now confirmed to be caused by swine flu, sources revealed.

As of now, the death toll in the individuals states stands at 369 from Delhi, 289 from Gujarat, 194 from Rajasthan, 148 from Karnataka, 95 from Delhi, 52 from Andhra Pradesh, 40 from Punjab, 38 from Haryana, 37 from Kerala, 26 from Madhya Pradesh, 19 from Uttar Pradesh, 13 from Uttarakhand, 11 from Chhattisgarh, 8 each from Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 from Tamil Nadu, 6 from Puducherry, 5 from Goa, 4 from Jammu and Kashmir, 3 from Orissa, 2 from Assam and 1 each from Mizoram and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Health officials also said that 35 new cases of swine flu infections were reported. These included 25 new cases from Maharashtra, 4 from Gujarat, 3 from Rajasthan, 2 from Karnataka and 1 from Delhi. India has confirmed a total of 29, 170 cases of swine flu so far. With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 29,710, the statement added.
