Manipur to host Dr T Ao football

Imphal, February 09 2010: Come November, Imphal would be hosting North East Dr T Ao Football trophy for the first time in the history of the tournament.

A meeting of NEC today approved the proposal raised by Manipur for hosting the championship at Imphal.

Presided over by DONER Minister BK Handique, the meeting of the NEC was held at the Assam Administrative Staff College at Khanpara.

Attended by Chief Ministers of all the North Eastern States with exception to Arunachal Pradesh, Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat, Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board Bijoy Koijam and Chief Secretary DS Poonia were also among the State delegation who participated in the meeting.

According to an official source, along with the approval of the proposal, NEC has directed for development of the required infrastructures.

With regard to the proposal on development of road and communication system in Manipur, the DONER Minister assured necessary action after a detailed discussion of the matter.

Development of National Highway 35 and 53, Trans-Asian Highways and introduction of bus services between Imphal and Mandalay were among other points highlighted in the proposal.

The State delegation had also taken up the issues related to the proposal for expansion of road from Tamenglong-Tamei and Kangpokpi-Tamei, as installation of power transmission line from Yurembam to Mao and from Leimatak to Jiribam as well as extension of the 2nd circuit DC line from Kangpokpi to Kakching and from Kakching upto Churachandpur.

The delegation had also exerted pressures for upgradation of the existing State Nursing School to Nursing College.
