Manipur Govt to disallow class promotion without exams

IMPHAL, Dec 18: State government issued another stricture for the resumption of normal classes in various educational institutions in the state.
The fresh strictures include a warning that no school will be allowed to give promotion to any student without conducting appropriate examination; a warning that normal schooling should precede any promotion examinations; and a caution that inability to resume normal classes by any school shall be viewed seriously by the government warranting further appropriate actions.
Further in an order issued today by the additional secretary, education (S) M Harekrishna, the government appealed to all schools which are yet to open and resume normal classes to start normal classes by December 12 in public interest, particularly in the interest of the students.

According to a highly placed official source, these warnings were an outcome of a high level meeting of concerned ministers and state officials chaired by the chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh was held this afternoon at his official bungalow.
Among others the meeting was attended by education minister L Yayantakumar, and other high ranking officials of the education department.
The meeting considered minutely the present academic situations in the state which have been remaining paralysed in the aftermath of the July 23 Khwairamband incident and subsequent class boycott announced by three students’ bodies, namely AMSU, MSF and KSA demanding justice in July 23 killings by the Manipur police commandos.
It may be mentioned that the government has issued a number of notices to the educational institutions in this regard, the latest being the appeal issued on December 7 this month to facilitate the resumption of normal classes.
During the discussions today, the members present appreciated the efforts made by the respective schools to conduct classes especially for class-X, XI and XII students so as to ensure that their future is not totally jeopardized.
The meeting however, viewed with all seriousness and concern the inability of the schools to resume normal classes the official source added.
Considering all issues relating to paralyses of academics in the state, state government issued the stern warnings mentioned above.
