23498 voters to decide electoral fortunes of four candidates today

IMPHAL, Dec 18: All preparations are through for the poling day of the bye-election to the 14-Yaiskul AC which scheduled tomorrow. All polling personnels along with EVMs have reached to their respective 28 polling stations this evening safely, according to an official source. Tight security preventive measures have also been taken up by the state government since this evening by concentrating the state police commandos from both Imphal West and Imphal East district in an around the Yaiskul AC in order to prevent any untoward, election related violence during the poll hours.

Mentioned may be made four candidates including the son of the late Elangbam Kunjeshore, E Suraj Singh are in teh fray.

The electoral fates of Suraj on Congress (I) ticket, Rajen Singh former Toknga editor on JD (S) ticket, Hanjabam Jayadeva Sharma alias Gandhi and Aribam Jagdis Sharma both Independent candidates will be decided by the voters of the constituency tomorrow.

In the meantime, all polling personnel along with EVMs and security team of CRPF have been dispatched from the office of Returning Officer (RO) at Porompat from 3 pm onwards this afternoon and all the polling personnel along with EVMs have safely reached to their respective destinations by 5 pm and there were no reports of untoward incidents, official sources said.
It may also mentioned that three battalions of CRPF will be deployed in this ensuing bye election.
Of the 28 polling stations in the constituency, nine have been declared as hyper sensitive and the remaining 19 as sensitive.
In all 22 security personnel including 18 armed CRPF men, four unarmed state police personnel will mind each of the hyper sensitive polling stations and 16 security personnel including 12 CRPF men and four unarmed police will be posted at the 19 sensitive polling stations of the constituency.
A total of 23498 voters including 12703 female will exercise right in all 28 polling stations of the constituency. Polling will start from 7am and continue till 4pm tomorrow, the sources said.
The BJP, MPP and NCP have not fielded their own candidates, but have officially extended their support to Independent candidate H Jayadeva alias Gandhi.
In the meantime, CRPC 144 has been clamped at the Imphal west district in view of the bye-election.
The district magistrate, Imphal west district, extended the already promulgated orders of November 3 with effect from 6 pm tonight until further notice.
The bye-election to the 14-Yaiskul AC was scheduled by the Election Commission of India to fill up the vacant seat of the constituency caused by the sudden demised of former MLA Elangbam Kunjeshor Singh during September this year.
