Ex-Mizo National Army (Ex-MNA) objected the statement made by the Chief Minister, Lal Thanhawla

Ex-Mizo National Army (Ex-MNA) objected the statement made by the Chief Minister, Mr. Lal Thanhawla last Monday at the release function of a book, Chin History, Culture and Identity. Accusing the Chief Minister of saying that he resigned from the post of Secretary in MNF because of the leader’s lack of determination to get Independence. In a press release, the Ex-MNA described the statement as injurious to the sentiment of the next of kins of those who have laid down their lives for Independence of Mizoram.

Greater Aizawl Water Supply Scheme Phase-II contrac work awarded to Johnson Eastern Power (JEP) has been cancelled. An order to this effect was signed today by the PHE Chief Engineer, Mr. R. Lalfanliana. Our Corr. understands that the reason for cancellation of the on going contract work included undue delay in completion of the contract work and discontinuation of work since September last year. The Government also has authorized the PHE Department to complete the remaining work as a Departmental work. Talking to our Corr. the Department sources said that JEP contract work began in November 1999 with the signing of contractual agreement with the Government to supply over 30 million litres of water per day to 2 lakh, 55 thousand persons of Aizawl city and the project was to be completed by 2004. Major works still left till today included construction of the Intake, installation of the vertical turbine pumping sets and laying of the main pipe line to cover over 400 metres long gap between the Pump House and the reservoir in Tuikhuahtlang.

NLUP Implementing Board Chairman, Mr. R. Selthuama asked beneficiaries of NLUP asistance to utilize the assistance for the own upliftment. Addressing NLUP awareness campaign in Lawngtlai YLA Hall today, Mr. R. Selthuama said, the Government has made provision in the guideline for punishment of those benefeciaries who misuse asistance to be given to them. The campaign was chaired by Lawngtlai District AMFU President, Mr. N. Lalzova.

Agriculture Technology Week is being observed in Saiha from today. In this connection, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Saiha and Agriculture Department exhibited new agriculture technology including soil testing, equipments, sowing machine, formation of organic manure and vermiculture to benefit the farmers. In this function, the Coordinator of KVK, Mr. Lalhmingmuana and Subject Matter Specialists imparted informations to the selected farmers.

A number of sim cards issued by Airtel have been disconected following direction of Directorate of Tele-Communication. Official sources in the Tele-Communication Department told our Corr. that the sim cards disconnected so far are the sim cards not used subsequently by the original subscribers. The sources also stated that the disconnected sim cards can be revalidated by the users in their own name.

The 26th General Conference of Federation of Mizoram Government Employees and Workers begins in Vanapa Hall today. Addressing the conference, DP&AR Minister, Mr. H. Liansailova reminded the Government servants that they are a part and parcel of the Government. Stressing important role of the Government servants, the Minister said, the Government is not the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers alone but with all the Government servants who are working for implementation of all the development and welfare schemes. Referring to increasing corruption in the state, Mr. Liansailova also claimed that there are many honest and dedicated Government servants on whom the Government have high expectation for good governance. On actions being taken against corrupt officials, the DP&AR Minister asserted that the Government goes by the law of the land and those who fall victims are punished as per the law. The Conference continues tomorrow to discuss and deliberate upon agenda items including election to the new Office Bearers. The Conference is also expected to pass a resolution in connection with their demand for early enhancement of pay in accordance with the recommendations of the 6th Central Pay Commission. The Conference was presided over by the Senior Vice President, Mr. T. Sangkunga.
