GANGTOK, June 16 (Assam Tribune) – The Sikkim Government has set a target of 85.90 per cent literacy rate in the State by 2012. The SDF-led government has meanwhile reconstituted the State Planning Commission to execute a number of developmental plans in Sikkim. The eight-member committee headed by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, has former CM Sanchaman Limboo as the deputy chairman and for the first time, the commission has four female members in its body.
Limboo said that the Commission would formulate long-term perspective plans for sustainable economic growth in the State. The body would also advise the State on the preparations of five year plans, annual plans and district plans in keeping with the SDF election manifesto.
In its first board meeting, the Commission dealt with the priority given to the social sector, especially education.
To enhance industrial development and investment in the State, the State planning body has also targeted resource mobilisation from multi-lateral and bilateral agencies. Chamling has pledged that all pending projects would be completed within 2013.
The Commission is set to review the progress of all planned projects and would also advise on policy initiatives to achieve financial stability, efficient resources and expenditure management for fostering saving investments in the State. – The Assam Tribune
