KNO issues missive on different issues

Lamka, May 30: Kuki National Organisation today issues numerous missives on topic relating with NLDs incarcerate leader Aung San Suu Kyi, the killing of Prof Islamuddin and the attack on its cadres allegedly by UKLF. Condemning the assassination of Late Prof Islamuddin inside the University campus of MU, and denouncing what it called criminalisation of education in the State for decades, the armed group called upon the public in general and the valley-based students organsations in particular for self introspection.

Higher educational institutions like MU should function as a place where volatile, socially divisive differences can be rationally resolved, or understood more fully, said KNO in its statement made available to the press.

As long as gun culture is being condoned, if not promoted, the future of our society, particularly those of the student community will remain at stake, it added and pitched on armed groups not to go along with student unions if they are concerned about the land and the people.

It also called upon the world’s two largest democracy, India and the US on behalf of the Kuki people in Sagaing Division of Burma to play a more pro-active role so as to ensure early transfer of power to the legitimately elected Suu Kyi led NLD party.

In a separate statement, the organisation expressed serious concern at the uncompromising and non-reconciliatory attitude and stance taken by UKLF. KNO accused UKLF of attacking its cadres at C Tengnoupal village in Chandel district on 28 May following the unfortunate shoot-out at Gunjul village along Chandel-CCpur border.

Terming the Gunjul incident in which two UKLF cadres were allegedly killed as accidental and undesirable, KNO said, it has been trying its best efforts for finding ways for rapprochement, including the Kuki customary law but the UKLF has negatively responded by bullets at C Tengnoupal. Claiming that one innocent villager was killed and two others were injured in the C Tengnoupal attack, the KNO statement appealed one and all to realise the futility of fratricidal killings arising out of the past mistakes and to be cautious enough not to follow and imitate the factional killings of neighbours – a reference believed to be that of Nagaland.
