He pointed out that Nagaland, which participated in the National Games for the first time at Guwahati in 2007 after the formation of the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), won 11 medals, including a gold.
Referring to a small country like Cameroon which attracted world attention through football, Rio said, “After seeing Olympics in Sydney and Beijing, football World Cups and other international sports events my experience is that sports is the only route through which Nagaland can shot into prominence in the world stage.”
A total of 147 sportspersons, including three coaches who won medals at international, national and regional sports meets were felicitated and rewarded by the Chief Minister and Parliamentary Secretary for Sport and Youth Resources, Neiba Konyak.
