Lamka, Aug 30: The Sugnu Road from Churachandpur town has already been converted into a state highway some years back and Rs. 1 crore has been sanctioned under the SPA during 2007-08 with another Rs. 2.3 crore during 2008-09 for maintaining the road stretch.

Though people of the area have the feeling that they are forgotten and bypassed by the development programmes of the state, it is not so. Many programmes for development of the area have been made, said the minister for power, horticulture, soil conservation, science and technology Phunzathang while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the Zomi Students Federation, ZSF, Tuining block at Tuining village today.

The programmes started at about 1.30 pm and were attended as guest of honour by Liensuankhup in place of special contractor M Ginsuanhau and LB Sona, president of the Zomi Council as the chief host and functional president respectively.

The power minister further pointed out that the conversion of Guite road into a state highway did not mean the present status of Tipaimukh road had been altered. The status remained the same and the only thing is that Guite road and Tipaimukh road have been classified as 150A and 150B and there are no alterations.

He said the opneing of the ZSF block would usher in a new era of peace and development.

He later contributed Rs. 10,000 to the programme organiser ZSF and for the new office bearers of the new block Rs. 10,000 while entertaining other appeals from the village chiefs and local church members.

T Manga Vaiphei, MLA, also spoke on the occasion. He exhorted the new leaders to be sincere in working for the cause of development and produce future leaders of the society.

He contributed Rs. 10,000, while Liensuankhup also spoke and donated Rs. 5,000.

LB Sona reiterated the importance of peace and recalled the 1998 peace accord while stressing the need for calm.
